How It All Began: Meet Wayne Sullivan, ABS Founder
Growing up in Massachusetts, Wayne Sullivan’s entrepreneurial spirit sparked at an early age. He purchased his first company, a dive shop, when he was only 16 years old. He attended the University of Massachusetts, completing his undergraduate degree in just three years. He worked throughout college to pay for his education and supported himself by scuba diving for lobsters and exploring salvage wrecks.
In 1977, while working as a CPA, Wayne had a client who owned an insulation business. In 1982, the client was contemplating retirement, and Wayne decided to buy the business. From the very start, Wayne has been passionate about educating the public on the importance of insulation—emphasizing that it saves energy, lowers heating and cooling costs, and helps keep homeowners comfortable.
Today, there are over 30 locations in the ABS family. Each location is built on a core philosophy of providing superior quality and service to each customer—whether a national builder, a small custom builder or a homeowner. Wayne continues to be a leader in our industry, developing cutting-edge programs to promote training, employee recognition, safety and mentoring. He has been a member of the National Association of Home Builders for over 40 years. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Insulation Contractors Association of America.
Outside of his work, Wayne devotes much of his time to his family and to his favorite hobby: scuba diving. In fact, Wayne is a master diver and has been deemed one of the top 10 divers in the U.S. He teaches and trains divers as well as donates his time and boat to aquatic research.
